LUBS Guest Lecture Series
‘Gender and Leadership’
With Professor Gary Powell
Thursday 17th October 2024
(14.00-15.30 GMT) – Online via Zoom
We are pleased to welcome Professor Gary Powell who will deliver his presentation on Gender and Leadership as part of the LUBS Guest Speaker Series. Gary will be discussing issues pertaining to gender and leadership addressed in his new book, Gender in Management, 6th edition (Sage, 2024, https://us.sagepub.com/en-us/nam/gender-in-management/book285447).
Gary’s talk deals with a number of contemporary and crucial challenges and questions for management. Why have leader stereotypes emphasized masculinity over time, and is this still true today? Why are there so few women in top management positions? And why do (some) men in top management feel free to sexually harass women, despite the #MeToo movement? It suggests practical steps to achieving a workplace in which all employees can reach their leadership potential, regardless of their gender. Gary will present his thoughts on these topics, and there will be plenty of time for questions.
