The Qualitative Case Study in Business and Management Research Workshop with Professor Emmanuella Plakoyiannaki

This workshop will take place online over two days. It elaborates on various aspects of qualitative case study research and publishing qualitative (case) scholarship.

Firstly, it provides an overview of recent trends and debates on the case study in business and management scholarship. The case study is a methodology of choice for qualitative management researchers, but what are the different options that researchers have when designing a case study? As researchers, how can we theorize from case studies? How can we assess the quality of a case study? This workshop will consider and problematise the ‘disciplinary convention’ to case study in business and management research.

Moreover, this workshop demystifies the publication process of qualitative (case) research and offers guidance to early career researchers on how to publish their work in business and management outlets. The workshop will address the following questions: What are the reasons for rejection in top tier journals? What are the current trends in qualitative research in top management journals? What is the key criticism that qualitative submissions attract? How can we address such criticism?

Detailed course notes, examples and relevant literature will be provided to workshop participants.
